Privacy policy

Last updated 2 October 2026
Little Places helps Australian families find childcare, playgrounds, toilets and baby change, days out and more. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have.
Little Places is an independent Australian website. If you have a question about your privacy, email us at hello@littleplaces.com.au.

The short version

• You can use most of the site without an account, and we don't ask who you are to do so.
• We don't sell your personal information.
• Little Places is free to use. We earn money from advertising: Featured listings that businesses pay for, affiliate links that can earn us a commission, and we may show ads.
• If you make an account, we keep what you give us so the site works for you: your saved places, your profile and anything you send through the site.
• We never ask for a child's name. The most we store about a child is a month and year of birth, and only if a parent chooses to add it.
• Booking and shopping links take you to other companies' websites, which have their own privacy policies. Some of these links earn us a commission.

What we collect when you visit

When you browse without an account, we don't collect your name or contact details. Like every website, the servers that deliver our pages (Cloudflare) receive your device's IP address and basic request information such as the page asked for and your browser type, to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse.
Your browser also keeps some settings on your own device (see "Cookies and storage on your device" below), such as the suburb you chose as your search area and the places you've saved while signed out. These stay on your device; we don't receive them unless you sign in and save to your account.

What we collect when you create an account

To create an account we collect your email address and a password, or you can sign in with Google, in which case Google gives us your name, email address and a link to your Google profile picture. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider (Supabase) and we never see them.
• Your profile: name, suburb, state and postcode, search radius, and optionally a photo, a short bio and a phone number.
• Parents: the childcare centres you shortlist and your private notes on them, places and ideas you save, lists you choose to share, the ages and days you're looking for care, and your children's month and year of birth if you add them.
• Childcare workers: the qualifications and checks you tick (for example a Working With Children Check; we don't collect the check numbers or documents), previous employment, availability, rates, the areas you'll work in, and a CV if you upload one when applying for a job.
• Centres and businesses: the details of your claim (including the email address used to verify it), your listing's description, photos, opening hours and contact details, vacancy updates, job posts and any change requests.
• If we check a claim by hand: any document you choose to upload to show the business name and address (such as a letter, bill, lease or ABN record), a note about it, and a phone number if you give one. Only our team can open these documents.
• Messages: enquiries you send to centres, care requests and messages between parents and workers, job applications and messages between centres and workers.
We keep these details in your account so the site works for you: your saved places, shortlists and notes appear in My Places, and your profile fills in your details. Other people using the site can't see your saved places (unless you share a list), notes or children's details, and we don't sell any of it. Depending on how you use the site, your account may also hold:

Children

Little Places is for parents and carers, not children. We never ask for a child's name, full date of birth, gender or photo. A parent can record a child's month and year of birth to help find suitable care; only that parent can see it.
When you send an enquiry to a centre, we ask you not to include personal details. The centre never sees your name or account. Email addresses and phone numbers in the message are hidden from centres unless the centre subscribes to Featured, which sees the message as written. Anything you type about your child is kept as you wrote it, so please share only what the centre needs.

Location

We only use your device's location when you press a "Use my location" button and allow it, for example to fill in your suburb when you complete your profile or to place a business on the map. We keep the suburb or map pin that results, not a record of where your device was.
"Use my location" on your search area works on your device: your browser downloads our list of suburbs for the surrounding region (about 100 km across) and picks the nearest one itself. Your exact position isn't sent to us or stored. That suburb is used until you close the browser tab, and your saved search area stays as it was.
If you haven't chosen a search area, we suggest one from your approximate location for that visit. Cloudflare, which delivers our pages, works out roughly where your internet connection is (usually a town or city); our site passes your browser only the town, the state and a position rounded to about 5 km, never your IP address, and your browser picks a nearby suburb, shown as "approx.". We don't store it, and it isn't saved as your search area unless you choose it.
Your search area is a suburb you choose. We store it on your device and, if you're signed in, in your profile, so pages can show places near it. When a page looks up places or tours near your search area, it uses that suburb's position, never your device's.

How we use personal information

We don't sell your personal information.
• To run the site and your account: showing your saved places, your profile and your messages, and keeping you signed in.
• To connect people who choose to be connected: parents with centres and childcare workers, and centres with workers.
• To verify and manage centre and business claims and listings, and to take payment for paid listings.
• To send you emails about your account and listings, such as a password reset or a claim that has been approved. You can turn off non-essential updates in your notification settings.
• To keep the site secure, prevent misuse, and meet our legal obligations.

What other people can see

• Childcare workers choose whether parents and centres can find them. Parents can see a worker's name, photo, suburb, ticked qualifications, experience, availability and rates; centres see less. Workers can hide themselves from particular centres.
• Centre and business listings you manage are public, as are photos you add to them.
• Profile photos are stored so they can be shown to the people you deal with through the site.
• A saved list you share can be opened by anyone with its link. It shows the list's title and places, not who made it.
• Your shortlist notes, saved places and children's details are private to you.

Who we share it with

We use other companies to run the site: Supabase (database and sign-in), Cloudflare (delivers the site, and counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics), Google (sign-in and fonts), Resend (emails), Stripe (payments; card details go straight to Stripe) and GitHub (map symbols).

Tours, tickets, stays and shopping links

Some pages show tours and tickets from Viator and GetYourGuide, places to stay from Stay22, and gift ideas from online shops. Some of these load a panel from that company on our page, which may set their own cookies. When you follow one of these links you're on their website and their privacy policy applies. Many are affiliate links: if you book or buy, the company may pay us a commission, at no extra cost to you. They tell us about the sale, not who you are.

Advertising and how we make money

Little Places is paid for by advertising. Businesses can pay to have their listing marked "Featured" and shown higher on some pages. Links to tours, tickets, places to stay and shops can earn us a commission (see above). We may also show ads from advertising networks, and use services that count visits so we can see which pages are used.
Advertising and visit-counting services may collect information from your browser, such as cookies, your device type and the pages you view, under their own privacy policies. The services we use are named in this policy.

Cookies and storage on your device

The site keeps a few things in your browser's storage so it works as you expect: whether you're signed in, your search area (and, until you close the tab, the suburb from "Use my location"), places and ideas you've saved while signed out, your display settings, which menu sections you had open, and game progress. You can clear these at any time by clearing your browser's site data; you'll then be signed out and lose anything saved only on that device.
Panels from the companies named in this policy, Cloudflare's security features, and any advertising or visit-counting services we use may set their own cookies. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings.

Keeping and deleting your information

We keep your information while your account is open. To close your account and delete your information, email hello@littleplaces.com.au from the email address on the account. We'll confirm it's you and delete your account and the information linked to it, except where we must keep a record by law, for example payment records for tax. Messages you sent to others may remain visible to them.
Information kept only on your device stays there until you clear it.

Security

We protect personal information with access controls in our database so that each person can only reach their own information, encrypted connections, and by keeping private files, such as CVs, in private storage that only the people meant to see them can open. No system is perfectly secure.

Seeing and correcting your information

You can see and change your information yourself in your account. If something can't be changed there, email hello@littleplaces.com.au.

Questions and complaints

If you have a question or a complaint about how we've handled your personal information, email hello@littleplaces.com.au.
