Things to do with kids in Central Coast NSW

About an hour from Sydney, the Australian Reptile Park at Somersby is where the venom for Australia's antivenoms comes from, and kids can watch the snakes being milked every morning. A few minutes away, Somersby Falls has a picnic area with free barbecues and a short rainforest track past the waterfalls.
At The Entrance, wild pelicans gather for Pelican Time, a free talk at 3.30pm on Wednesdays, weekends and every day in the school holidays. Up the coast, kids can climb the 96 steps of Norah Head Lighthouse on a tour; you don't need to book.
For a walk with a reward, follow the Bouddi coastal walk 3 kilometres from Putty Beach to Maitland Bay, where the wreck of an old paddle steamer shows at low tide. Terrigal Beach has a little rock pool tucked into the cliff, and between May and August you can watch for whales from Crackneck Point.

Australian Reptile Park, Somersby
Watch the snake milking at the Australian Reptile Park
The park at Somersby, about an hour from Sydney or Newcastle, supplies the venom used to make Australia's snake and funnel-web antivenoms. Kids can watch snake milking daily at 10.30am, and Elvis the saltwater crocodile has his own show on weekends. It opens 9am to 5pm except Christmas Day; a family pass for two adults and two kids was $145.99 online in October 2026.

Gosford Regional Gallery and Edogawa Commemorative Garden
Feed the koi in a Japanese garden
The Edogawa Commemorative Garden, a gift from Gosford's sister city in Japan, sits beside Gosford Regional Gallery in East Gosford. Children feed the koi from the bridge with $2 bags of fish food from the gallery shop, so leave the bread at home. Entry is free, it opens 9.30am to 4pm most days of the year, and the gallery suggests about two hours for both.
