Things to do with kids in Sydney's Northern Beaches

Start with the ferry to Manly. Manly Beach is patrolled by three surf clubs and has a pool at each end, and a short walk south takes you to Shelly Beach, a calm bay in a marine sanctuary where kids can snorkel with blue gropers. On North Head, Q Station runs a morning tour of the old quarantine station.
Up the coast, Dee Why Rock Pool has a separate pool for toddlers, and the rock platform below Long Reef is full of sea creatures to find at low tide. The Narrabeen Lagoon Trail is a flat loop with no steps, good for bikes and scooters, and kayaks can be hired on the lagoon.
Right up at Palm Beach, older kids can climb to Barrenjoey Lighthouse, or catch the ferry across Pittwater to The Basin, a sheltered beach and lagoon with barbecues. West Head has one of the best views in Sydney, looking over Pittwater and Broken Bay.
