Things to do with kids in Echuca & the Central Murray

Echuca is a paddlesteamer town. At the Port of Echuca, you can walk the old red gum wharf, watch the steam engines run and take a one-hour cruise on the river. A few doors along, the Olde Penny Arcade hands you real pennies to play forty machines from the early 1900s.
At Kyabram Fauna Park, kangaroos and emus roam free through the woodland, and there is a splash park in the warmer months. Further east toward Cobram, Thompsons Beach is a wide stretch of river sand that is said to be the largest inland beach in the Southern Hemisphere, with gelato next door. Go into the water slowly, as there can be snags and currents.
In season, you can pick your own strawberries at The Big Strawberry in Koonoomoo, which has playgrounds inside and out. At Yarrawonga, the foreshore has a splash park and shady picnic spots by Lake Mulwala.
