Things to do with kids in Perth's South-East

Get to Serpentine Falls before 10am, because it often fills up and closes to new visitors. It's an easy walk to the pool below the falls, but don't let anyone climb the rocks. Nearby, Serpentine Dam has a playground and free barbecues on the lawn below the wall.
In spring, the hills come alive with flowers. Tulips fill Araluen Botanic Park at Roleystone, and the gate sells activity packs for kids. Ellis Brook Valley has wildflowers along a short, easy loop from the picnic area. At Wungong Dam, kids can sail model boats on the lake below the wall.
Closer to the city, kids can walk across the Kent Street Weir over the Canning River, and there's a playground in the park beside it. On some Sundays, the Castledare Miniature Railway runs little trains beside the river; tickets are sold online. On weekends, older kids can ride the waterslide at Riverton Leisureplex.

Serpentine Falls
Get to Serpentine Falls early
An easy walk from the car park leads to the falls, which pour into a rock-lined pool after autumn and winter rain. Arrive before 10am, because the area often fills and closes to new visitors. Do not climb or jump from the falls; people have died doing this.

Tickets are sold online only through TryBooking, which lists each run day, so book before you go.
