Camping in the Fleurieu Peninsula

29 campgrounds · 2 with powered sites · 1 with a dump point · 3 with tent sites
The Fleurieu is an easy run south of Adelaide, with about 140 km of coast from Sellicks Beach to Middleton. It has three moods: calm swimming beaches on the gulf side, surf and whales on the south coast, and bush camping in the hills at Deep Creek, looking across to Kangaroo Island.

Where is the best place to camp in the Fleurieu Peninsula?

Stay on the gulf side to be close to Adelaide, where parks such as BIG4 Port Willunga Tourist Park are near Aldinga Beach. On the south coast, Victor Harbor, Port Elliot and Middleton have holiday parks along the surf beaches, and Goolwa sits at the Murray Mouth. For bush camping, Deep Creek National Park, about 11 km east of Cape Jervis, has five camping areas facing Kangaroo Island, with Trig central to the walking trails.

What is there to do in the Fleurieu Peninsula with kids?

At Victor Harbor, the horse-drawn tram crosses the causeway to Granite Island, and the SteamRanger Cockle Train runs along the coast to Goolwa, past the Port Elliot railway station. The line has history: Goolwa became Australia's first inland port in 1853, and a year later Australia's first railway linked it to Port Elliot. Goolwa's museum tells that story, and inland at Strathalbyn, Gilbert's Motor Museum is close to the caravan park. On the gulf side, Aldinga Beach is known for swimming and snorkelling in summer, next to the Aldinga Reef Aquatic Reserve.
