Things to do with kids in Mornington Peninsula

On the bay side, the beaches are calm and shallow. Mothers Beach in Mornington is perfect for little kids, with kayaks to hire and a big playground in the park next door. On Sundays, the Mornington Railway runs a heritage train from Moorooduc into town.
Arthurs Seat is the big day out. The Eagle gondola glides up the hill with views across the bay to Melbourne. At the top, Enchanted Adventure Garden has mazes, tube slides and a treetop ropes course, with a smaller one for little climbers. Book ahead in the holidays. Nearby, the Ashcombe Maze has hedges taller than most adults.
At the tip of the peninsula, kids can explore the old tunnels at Fort Nepean, using the shuttle to get there. The ocean side is rough, so keep to the rock pools at Sorrento back beach and the boardwalk down to Pulpit Rock at Cape Schanck.

Fort Nepean
Explore the tunnels at Fort Nepean
Narrow tunnels link the old gun emplacements at Fort Nepean, so allow at least an hour. A hop-on hop-off shuttle runs between the Quarantine Station and the fort, or it's about 4.5km each way on foot from the Quarantine Station. There's no drinking water at the fort, and the Engine House is closed after a landslip.

Temporary Museum and reception
Take the boardwalk down to Pulpit Rock
From the car park, a short circuit leads to a timber staircase and boardwalk down to the beach and rock platform. Lookouts face Pulpit Rock and the Devils Desk, and the lighthouse buildings date from 1859. Swimming here is hazardous and big waves can wash over the rocks, so hold little hands.

Get lost in the Ashcombe hedge maze
The hedge maze is more than 40 years old, with walls of over 1,000 cypress trees standing above three metres. Allow an hour to an hour and a half; tight squeezes may stop prams, but the lavender labyrinth is wider. Kids aged 4 to 15 were $14 in October 2026, under-4s are free, and it opens 10am to 5pm daily.
