Things to do with kids in Melbourne's South-East & Bayside

The bay beaches here are calm and good for little kids. Build sandcastles in front of the colourful bathing boxes at Brighton Beach, then walk out along the pier. At Beaumaris, the rock pools at Ricketts Point are full of small sea creatures. Mordialloc Beach has a long pier and a big playground in the reserve behind it.
Inland, Braeside Park has an adventure playground for kids of all abilities and an easy walk around the old racecourse. At Karkarook Park, you can paddle a kayak on the lake and climb the observation tower. In Elsternwick, the gardens at Rippon Lea have a big lake and a fernery to explore.
Further out, the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne are free, and the visitor centre hands out seek-and-find cards for kids. At Moonlit Sanctuary in Pearcedale, kids can hand-feed wallabies, and there are lantern-lit tours at night. Kids who love planes will like the Moorabbin Air Museum.
