Things to do with kids in Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs

Melbourne's east has some of the city's best parks for kids. Jells Park in Wheelers Hill has two new nature playspaces built for children of all abilities, plus a lake and bird hides. In Burwood, Wattle Park has a two-storey tram fort to climb. In Doncaster, Ruffey Lake Park has a ninja warrior course near the lookout.
Along the Yarra, Westerfolds Park has an adventure playground, and kangaroos graze the open areas early in the morning. Further upstream at Warrandyte, the gentle Pound Bend River Walk often ends with kangaroos in the grass. At Bulleen, the sculpture garden at Heide is free, and kids can count the sculptures on the way down to the river.
On the third Sunday of the month, the Box Hill Miniature Steam Railway gives rides around Elgar Park. In Balwyn, Beckett Park has an in-ground trampoline and a sandpit with diggers. On a rainy day, kids can follow the cables in the Kids Hub at the National Communication Museum in Hawthorn.
147 family outings, waterfalls and walks across the region, sorted by drive time from Box Hill. Choose your suburb at the top to sort from where you are staying.
