Camping in Melbourne

20 campgrounds · 1 with showers · 2 with tent sites
Camping in Melbourne itself means a holiday park in the suburbs, handy as a base for a city trip or a stop on a longer drive. Pick the side of town that suits you: the bay at Werribee South, the bush along the Yarra at Warrandyte, or the south-east around Berwick.

Where is the best place to camp in Melbourne?

On the north side, Melbourne Big 4 Holiday Park is in Coburg North. In the west, Werribee South Tourist Park is on Port Phillip Bay, among market gardens that grow around 70% of Australia's lettuces. For something greener, Crystal Brook Tourist Park is at Warrandyte, close to Warrandyte State Park, and in the south-east there are parks at Dandenong South and Berwick.

What is there to do in Melbourne with kids?

Near the airport, URBNSURF Wave Park is a short drive from the northern parks. At Werribee South, The Elements Coastal Activity Park Mini Golf is close to the tourist park. In Berwick, Wilson Botanic Park is near the parks, and Casey ARC is at Narre Warren. North-east at Whittlesea, Yan Yean Reservoir was finished in 1857 as Melbourne's first water supply and was the largest artificial reservoir in the world at the time, and its park has picnic areas.

What are the best walks and waterfalls near Melbourne?

Warrandyte State Park, 586 hectares of bush on the Yarra, was the site of Victoria's first gold discovery in July 1851. The Gold Heritage Walk passes the sites of old mines, and at Pound Bend you can see the tunnel dug in 1870 to divert the river for gold dredging; the Yarra there is used for canoeing and kayaking. North of the city, Kinglake National Park, 98% of which burned on Black Saturday in 2009, has the waterfall at Masons Falls and walking tracks, some wheelchair accessible, with wallabies, kangaroos and wombats.
