Things to do with kids in Yorke Peninsula

The Yorke Peninsula is full of calm swimming spots for young kids. The Edithburgh tidal pool is shallow, free and good for learning to swim. At Port Vincent, kids can swim out to the pontoon, and at Moonta Bay, there is a swimming enclosure by the jetty and a free water park with big slides on the foreshore.
The Copper Coast towns have small, friendly museums. In Wallaroo, kids can meet George the giant squid at the Nautical Museum. At Moonta Mines, they can sit in a 1900s classroom at the Model School, and in the school holidays a little tourist train runs past old mine sites.
At the bottom of the peninsula, Innes National Park is worth a full day. Walk through the ruins of the old town of Inneston, look for the rusty wreck on Ethel Beach, and push the pram out to the Cape Spencer lookout. For a swim, go to the sheltered beach at Marion Bay.

Top things to do in Yorke Peninsula

the Ethel
Find the wreck of the Ethel
The rusty remains of the 1904 wreck lie at the northern end of Ethel Beach, though shifting sand sometimes hides them. A steep staircase leads down from the sealed car park, and a bluff-top track has signs about the ships. Strong rips and waves make this a beach for exploring, not swimming.

Inneston
Walk through the old town of Inneston
Around 200 people once lived at Inneston, which had its own school, bakery, post office and tennis court. Parks SA lists the walk through the ruins as 2km, about an hour; watch for unstable walls and carry water. Stromatolites grow in Inneston Lake, a short walk away.

Cape Spencer Lookout
