Things to do with kids in Melbourne's Western Suburbs

At Werribee Open Range Zoo, a free safari bus tours the savannah, and kids get in free on weekends and in the school holidays. Next door, the gardens at Werribee Park are free, and the mansion is open every day.
Kids also get into Scienceworks free, and the planetarium shows are worth the extra ticket. In Williamstown, kids can climb aboard the old warship HMAS Castlemaine on weekends. Nearby, Point Gellibrand has the Dolphin Playground and an old timeball tower. The Bay Trail runs along the water from Williamstown toward Point Cook.
Out north-west, a steep path leads down from an old volcano to the Organ Pipes, tall columns of basalt above the creek. Brimbank Park has a nature playscape for children of all abilities and long paths beside the river. In Point Cook, kids can see old Air Force planes at the RAAF Museum, but you need to book.
162 family outings, waterfalls and walks across the region, sorted by drive time from Footscray. Choose your suburb at the top to sort from where you are staying.
