Things to do with kids in Broken Hill & Outback NSW

Broken Hill is a mining city, and kids can see why at the Albert Kersten museum, with its famous Silver Tree, a 42-kilogram silver nugget and hands-on crystal displays. At the old Sulphide Street station, they can climb aboard historic trains. At night, drive up to the Miners Memorial on top of the old mine heap for the view over the city lights.
Silverton is a short drive away, and almost a ghost town. Kids who love cars will want to see the Mad Max 2 Museum, full of vehicles and props from the film. The old gaol is packed with things from the town's mining days. A few minutes past town, the Mundi Mundi Lookout is the place to watch the sun go down over the plains.
Further east, the Great Cobar Heritage Centre lets kids take a miner's job and line up for their pay. Up near the Queensland border, the free Goodooga hot baths are open day and night from March to November.
