Things to do with kids in South-West Sydney

The Australian Botanic Garden at Mount Annan is free, and its playground has sandpits, slides, climbing walls and a flying fox, with a cafe right next door. At Abbotsbury, kids can try milking a cow at Calmsley Hill City Farm, then ride the tractor train. Nearby, Lizard Log has a nature playground and free barbecues in the bush.
On weekends, steam trains run short trips from the NSW Rail Museum at Thirlmere, and most of the exhibits are under cover. On a hot day, kids can swim in the waterhole at Bents Basin, but lifeguards are only there in the Christmas holidays. The Burragorang Lookout looks down over the huge lake behind Warragamba Dam.
Closer in, there are free museums for a rainy day. The Fairfield City Museum has a 1930s schoolhouse and a blacksmith's shop. In Campbelltown, the Arts Centre has a Japanese garden, with a playground a short walk away.
120 family outings, waterfalls and walks across the region, sorted by drive time from Liverpool. Choose your suburb at the top to sort from where you are staying.
