Things to do with kids in Blue Mountains

Most families start in Katoomba, about two hours from Sydney by car or train. Walk out to Echo Point for the Three Sisters, then go down the road to Scenic World. Its railway, billed as the steepest passenger railway in the world, drops into the rainforest below the cliffs, and kids rarely forget it.
Wentworth Falls Lake is the easy one for little kids: a playground, a jetty and flat paths for scooters and small bikes. In Blackheath, Govetts Leap has a huge view across the Grose Valley without a long walk to reach it.
If your kids are older and like a proper walk, the Grand Canyon track takes three to four hours, with steep steps in and out. Bring a jumper: it is colder up here than in Sydney, especially in winter.

Echo Point Lookout (Three Sisters)
See the Three Sisters from Echo Point
Echo Point in Katoomba looks straight across to the Three Sisters and the Jamison Valley. An easy 400m path from the archway by the visitor centre leads to Oreades lookout, and wheelchairs can manage it with help. Honeymoon Bridge, at the bottom of the Giant Stairway, is closed for rockfall, so turn back at the lookouts.

Wentworth Falls
Climb down to the top of Wentworth Falls
A 1.4km return track from the Wentworth Falls picnic area goes down about 200 steps to Fletchers lookout. From there you watch the falls drop 100m to the valley floor, and a few more steps reach the top of the falls. There are hidden cliff edges and steep stairs, so it's not for prams and children need close watching.
