Camping in the Riverina

112 campgrounds · 7 with powered sites · 3 with showers · 4 with a dump point · 5 with tent sites
The Riverina is Murrumbidgee country. The river runs 1,485 km through Gundagai, Wagga Wagga, Narrandera, Leeton and Hay, and irrigation since 1912 has made the region the source of about 90% of NSW's citrus and 80% of its wine grapes. Camping here is mostly town caravan parks and simple river-beach camps among the red gums.

Where is the best place to camp in the Riverina?

Between Narrandera and Darlington Point, dozens of small camps line the river, with names like Euroley Beach, and near Hay there is a similar run of river camps. For showers and power, Narrandera has Lake Talbot Tourist Park beside the pool, and Wagga Wagga, Griffith, Hay and Gundagai each have town parks. Out west, Willandra National Park has the Willandra campground, about 64 km from Hillston.

What is there to do in the Riverina with kids?

At Narrandera, the Lake Talbot pool complex has a 50-metre pool and water slides, and several hundred koalas live in the town's Koala Regeneration Reserve. In Wagga Wagga, the Botanic Gardens have an aviary, a small zoo and a miniature railway, and the RAAF Wagga Aviation Heritage Centre is near the airport. In Hay, Shear Outback is close to the caravan parks, and Hay Gaol is now a museum. At Gundagai, the Dog on the Tuckerbox is 8 km out of town, and the town remembers Yarri and Jacky Jacky, who rescued more than 40 people in bark canoes in the 1852 flood.
