Camping in North Coast NSW

278 campgrounds · 57 with powered sites · 24 with showers · 34 with a dump point · 78 with tent sites
The NSW North Coast runs from Myall Lakes all the way to the Queensland border, beach town after beach town, with World Heritage rainforest in the hills behind. Border Ranges, Washpool, Nymboida and Dorrigo are all part of the Gondwana Rainforests, and at Byron, Cape Byron is the easternmost point of the Australian mainland.

Where is the best place to camp in North Coast NSW?

Pick an area, then a site. At the southern end, Myall Lakes National Park has Mungo Brush, a large national park campground by the water. Around Forster, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Yamba, Ballina and Byron, holiday parks sit a short walk from the beaches. Up by the border, Kingscliff Beach Holiday Park is on a patrolled beach with gentle waves, and inland, Dorrigo Mountain Holiday Park puts you close to the rainforest.

What is there to do in North Coast NSW with kids?

On the coast, much of what there is to do is a walk from the parks. Port Macquarie, at the mouth of the Hastings River, has a maritime museum and Hydro Putt, and Trial Bay Gaol stands on the headland at Arakoon. In Ballina, the naval and maritime museum is in town. Kingscliff's main beach is patrolled with gentle waves, which suits small children and learner surfers, and older kids can join guided rafting and canoeing trips on the Nymboida River.
